THE EXOTIC LOTUS PALETTE | Velvet 59

Cuando estuve en BeautyCon NYC vi muchísimas cosas, había bastante para comprar. Pero, como siempre les he dicho, no soy muy compradora, me gusta comprar cuando necesito. Justamente, necesitaba una paleta (o mas bien quería) con otros colores que no fueran los de la Urban Decay Naked Basics, que por cierto es la única paleta que tenia en ese momento hahaha! Entonces ya cuando casi nos íbamos, recuerdo que Mariana ya estaba muy cansada, decidimos dar una ultima vuelta por areas que yo no había pasado y luego irnos. Fue entonces cuando me encontré el booth de Velvet 59, una marca totalmente desconocida para mi y que para mi sorpresa son, Cruelty Free & Veganos!!! Según lo que puedo ver, me parece que Velvet 59 es lo que llamaríamos una compañía "Independiente/Alternativa" que esta creciendo y que tiene su propia ética por la cual se rigen. Me gusta pensar que esas compañías van detrás de lo mismo que yo, productos de calidad, sin necesidad de dañar el medio ambiente ni los animales; aunque sean un poco mas trabajosos de fabricar.

The Exotic Lotus Palette trae ocho colores, la mayoría cálidos, uno negro con brillos y otro rosado muy pálido.
La mayoría son matte excepto por 2 sombras que traen brillos/escarchas y una que es en acabado metálico.
Las sombras con brillo: Meiling y Princess of China, son un poco difícil de aplicar con brochas, con los dedos es mas fácil y pigmentan mejor. Tiger Lily es la unica sombra metálica y es un color cobre muy bonito, bueno para el otoño pero fácil de usar en cualquier maquillaje. Las sombras matte se difuminan mucho mas fácil que las demás y son fáciles de aplicar con brochas. Hasta ahora mi sombra favorita es: Kyoto Kimono que es como un color malva adecuado para el día a día.
Utilice el color mas complicado de la paleta que es un naranja encendido llamado The Silk Road, para mi maquillaje de fin de año. Lo combine con Tiger Lily como color de transicion (el bronce metalico que mencione anteriormente) para suavizarlo un poco y en la cuenca use Sake Plum para dar profundidad. El maquillaje de ojos me duro la noche entera! No se si agradecerle eso a la calidad de esta paleta o a mi prebase de ojos de MILANI.
Algo que me gusta es que las sombras son removibles así que si quieres llevarte una en especifico en una paleta personalizada, puedes. No se si Velvet 59 vende sus sombras individualmente porque no vi nada de eso en el website, lo cual es una desventaja porque si se te acaba un color que te guste mucho de la paleta, no lo podrás reemplazar. No creo que valga la pena comprar la paleta completa por un solo color. Ojala la compañia se motive a ofrecer esta opcion pronto.
La paleta vale $39 dolares pero yo la consegui por $27 con el descuento que habia en ese momento. Por el precio, me parece una buena compra. Los colores son faciles de utilizar en el dia a dia y le podre sacar provecho. Si andas buscando algo mas basico, no te recomiendo esta paleta para comenzar. Con esto no digo que la paleta sea de mala calidad ni demasiado compleja sino que hay otras paletas mas basicas, con absolutamente todos los colores que puedas necesitar, que son mas adecuadas para eso. Me parece una buena compra si ya tienes todos tus colores basicos y quieres aventurar un poco a la hora de maquillarte. Otra cosa importante es asegurarte de que te guste utilizar esta seleccion de colores en tu maquillaje, como me sucede a mi. Yo no soy la de colores neones, ni rosados fucsia, ni azules y eso hace que esta paleta sea muy versatil y util para mi. En conclusion, me gusta esta paleta, compraria las sombras individuales si las ofrecen y la recomiendo!

There were so many things to shop for at BeautyCon NYC but if you know me, I don't like to shop for things I don't need. I was in the market for a new palette for a while and the only palette I had was the Urban Decay Naked Basics and I kind of needed an upgrade lol. I remember Mariana was really tired and we were getting ready to leave so, we decided to do one more round and check out the spaces I couldn't stop by earlier. That's how we found the Velvet 59 booth, a brand I didn't know anything about which happened to be offering Cruelty Free & Vegan makeup products!!! From what I see Velvet 59 is an indie company that's still growing and has their own rules and morals to follow. I like to think that these kind of companies have the same goal as I, good quality products without damaging other beings or the environment; even if the process to make these products is a bit more time-consuming.
The Exotic Lotus Palette has 8 eye shadows most of which are warm colors, one black with glitter and a very pale shade of pink. Two of the eye shadows have glitter, one has a metallic finish and the rest are matte.
Meiling and Princess of China have glitter and for some reason I find them very difficult to apply with a brush. I prefer using my fingers and this way you get a much better color payoff. Tiger Lily is a nice metallic copper that looks awesome to use in the fall but can still be added to your makeup any time of the year. The matte eye shadows are much more easier to blend and to use with a brush. So far, my favorite out of the whole palette is Kyoto Kimono, a nice mauve color perfect for everyday makeup looks. I used The Silk Road, a bright orange, which I find to be the most complicated color in the palette, for my New Year's Eve makeup. I also used Tiger Lily as a transition color to soften the look a bit and Sake Plum on the crease to add depth. My eye makeup lasted all night!!! Not sure if I should thank the quality of the palette or my MILANI eye primer.
Something I really like from this palette is that the eye shadow pans can be removed from it, which is perfect if you're traveling and want to take a specific eye shadow with you in a smaller personalized palette. I'm not sure if Velvet 59 has their eye shadows available for individual purchase because I didn't see anything about that in the website. This is a disadvantage because if you use up your favorite eye shadow, you won't be able to buy a refill. I don't think is very convenient having to buy an entire new palette just for one color. I'm hoping they'll add the option to buy refills, soon.
The palette costs US$39 but I was able to get it for US$27 because of the discount available at that moment. I think it's worth the price. The colors are easy to use for everyday looks and you can easily go from a subtle to a more elaborate look. However, if you're looking for something more basic I wouldn't recommend this palette for you to start with. I'm not saying this is a bad product or too complex, just that there are better options for someone who just wants a very basic look or is just starting to use makeup. I do think this is a great palette if you already have all the basic colors but want to expand your options and have some fun when doing your eye makeup. I also recommend to make sure you like the color selection this palette offers before you purchase it, which is what happened to me. I am not into neons, pinks nor blues so this was the palette for me. I find it useful and very versatile. Finally, I like this palette, I would buy the refills if they ever become available and I recommend it!
